Neutron Shielding Properties of Concretes Containing Boron Carbide and Ferro – Boron

Concrete is the most generally used shield material as it is inexpensive and adjustable for any construction design. Radiation shielding properties of concrete may vary depending on the concrete composites. Different types of special concrete have been developed by the addition of shielding material such as iron and boron carbide in aggregate formulation could enhance the capability and quality of radiation resistance property. In this paper, Ferro – boron and boron carbide added to concrete shield in form of particle alloy were described as a shielding material and the properties of these shields were investigated by FLUKA Monte Carlo simulation code. According to the simulations results, it is clear that concrete by adding different proportions of boron carbide and Ferro – boron can enhance neutron shielding property and Ferro – boron added to concrete is the effective of neutron shielding from boron carbide added to concrete.
